I'm doing lots of crazy things to my wedding dress which means lots of trips to the seamstress. That's why I didn't have a second thought about scheduling an appointment in the middle of the week after work. No problem, I'll just run in, check the progress, get measured for the next adjustment and be out in no time. Yes, I brought a friend to my first "fitting," which essentially consisted of me putting on the dress and holding it up because it didn't fit my body at all. But she was there for moral support - just in case - for the first pinning. Yesterday was the second pinning. It didn't go as well. Hence, lesson number 2:
Always bring someone to Oooo and Ahhh over you during wedding dress fittings.
It's stressful. It's traumatic. It makes you second-guess your dress pick, your body, what you ate last night. Hear me when I tell you that you need someone to assure you that you look great!
After second-guessing my dress, wondering if the dress will still fit in <4 months, trying on a veil with jeans because I forgot to mention it while the dress was still on, and overall freakin' out, I came home last night to a glass of wine and a hot bath. I'm now proud to report that my next appointment is on a Saturday and this time, I will bring assurance. I advise you to do the same.
Big shout-out to my wonderfully supportive friends who answered my calls last night and listened to me vent!

Wanna Go To Costco?
What's the first thing you thought of when you read this headline? A bar-b-que maybe? Oh, it's got to be their housewarming party! Maybe she just needs to stock up on ice cream? All good guesses, and all likely to be correct at some point in the near future, but not the case today.
You've got to see this to believe it:
COSTCO is selling WEDDING DRESSES!!!
(my favorite part is that is says "Appointments Recommended." "Yes, is this the Costco warehouse? Yes, I'd like to make an appointment. No, no food, just a wedding dress. Thanks.")
I am speechless.
The ad goes on to say that these dresses range from $699-$1,399 which is 40% off of retail. Now, you all know that I love nothing more than a good bargain, but that price range isn't cheap. And if you're looking to spend that much on a dress, wouldn't you want a, um, nicer shopping experience? There's something about a cement floor warehouse full of food that doesn't exactly scream Bridal.
I'll admit that I haven't experienced this in person so perhaps it's much nicer than I'm assuming. And to play devil's advocate, this will benefit brides who don't have time to wait for an ordered dress to arrive. But Costco? Really?!
This might require a shopping trip for more ice cream... who wants to come?

The Goods Have Been Delivered
I know that you were all holding you breath as to whether or not the Man in Brown came through and he did! UPS delivered two packages filled with three lovely items yesterday!! I haven't tried the dress on yet because I want to wait for a more sanitized environment (dog hair... know what I'm sayin'?) so for now I just tuck it in at night, check on it in the morning and again when I get home from work. Want to see a picture?!
See below...
That's it - on the bottom!! Shoes are on top!!
What, you really thought I was going to show you a picture of the dress?
I haven't decided if the shoes will be worn on The Big Day but regardless, they're beautiful and I'm keeping them. Due to popular demand, I'm actually including a photo:
Color is nude with gold embroidery. Badgley Mischka. I love them.
Almost as much as I love our wedding gift from MOB and FOB...
A KITCHENAID MIXER!!!!!
And we haven't even registered yet!!! I cannot find the words to express how excited I am about this beautiful appliance. We're registering next weekend, yes, on Superbowl Sunday, so we'll have to decide what fun attachments we would like to go with it. Oh, the possibilities...
In other fun exciting news, FOB just got a HUGE promotion at work! Congratulations, Dad!! Or should I say DIRGC ;)
All in all, it's been an incredibly exciting 24 hours in Lafayette, CO. I'm going to meet with a seamstress on Saturday totry on the dress in a clean place get a quote on alterations. Everyone should have received their Save The Date's by now - hope you appreciated the hole punches!
Until next time... and here's to hoping we have exciting house news soon...

Have You Seen This Dress?!
Hello, Nicole Richie. I love your dress. Can we be friends?
Is this not AH-MAZING?! I can't wait to see more pictures. I might actually be forced to buy the new People mag when it comes out tomorrow.

Ditching The White Dress
While perusing CNN during my read-the-news break at work, I came across an interesting article that caught my attention. Yes, I know what you're going to say. Natalie, anything with the word "bride" or "wedding" always catches your attention. I won't deny it but I do think this one is particularly interesting.
Brides buck tradition and ditch the white dress
The article doesn't give us (or those of us who regularly browse wedding sites) any new information but reiterated what we've been seeing lately: less brides are wearing white on their wedding day. In my mind, white and ivory are in the same category but the article does make a distinction. The dress I ordered, as well as what a lot of brides are gravitating towards these days (according to the article), is ivory. Big deal. However, the featured bride is wearing a blue/green dress...
I like traditions. I think that there is something romantic and comforting about them - especially during big life-cycle events like weddings. This doesn't mean that I like all traditions - and I'm sure that's what these out-of-the-box brides are thinking. Personally, I would never consider not wearing a white/ivory dress on my wedding day but I'm fascinated by the women who do. I wonder if they'll regret it later. This, being their one opportunity to wear a WHITE gown, rather than one that can be worn to prom or the Oscars.
In my head, the ceremony and the reception offer two completely different vibes. So when brides wear white to the ceremony and change for the reception, it shouldn't be that big of a deal.
But the actual ceremony... the uniting of two people... the "forever" promises... the mention of our ancestors making the same commitment... the seriousness of the whole thing... you're not wearing white?
Who am I to judge? We're not even having a wedding cake.
Disclaimer: this post is not meant to offend anyone wearing a non-whiteish dress on their wedding day. I am merely intrigued and curious as to your thoughts. Please comment below!

Whew!
Remember that list I posted on October 4th? No? Here it is again:
I was having fun with the cathedral-lenth veil!
How fun is this?!
Yes, that's all the train...
I loved this one!
To Be Completed by December:
* Hire photographer and take engagement pics
* Secure an officiant
* Have an invite and STD plan (that's Save the Date, weirdo).
* Have a dress? Maybe...
HAHA!! Yes, it's been a busy week!! Engagement pics is not crossed off, but don't worry, they're scheduled! Fiance and I are excited for our urban shoot on Sunday, November 7th. Now I just have to figure out what to wear..hmmm...
We have a Rabbi! We have a photographer! Invites are in the works! I BOUGHT MY DRESS TONIGHT!! The wedding is getting more and more real every day and I cannot wait. You are going to have to wait to see pictures of The Dress until The Wedding (ha, like it's the event of the century) but I hope these fun dresses make you smile. I had a blast with Operation: Wedding Dress and am almost sad that I'm done trying on fancy, expensive dresses. Maybe we'll go to the Oscar's some day... a girl can always dream.
Enjoy!
