Update: Sapphires are BLUE!

In the perfect continuation from yesterday's blog post, Prince William is now engaged and his soon-to-be-royal Fiancee is sporting a giant blue sapphire ring surrounded by diamonds.

Will we see a new trend?

Rubies are Red, Emeralds are Green

Fresh on the heels of our white-or-not-white wedding dress discussion, let's talk about engagement rings for a second.  Jessica Simpson is once again in the news but the conversation is about her engagement ring (we'll save the 5-month courtship for a later topic).

It's a RUBY!!!

I love this article for giving kudos to her Fiance for going the unconventional route by choosing a ring that looks like one of the "Crown Jewels. "

But let's be honest... would you accept a gold, ruby and diamond ring?

It's not particularly my taste but is that because we're taught to expect a white diamond?  Diamond engagement rings didn't become common until the 1930s (thank you DeBeers) and before that, colored stones were the norm.

Do you think they'll make a comeback?

We Entered a Contest... and Need Your HELP!

Travis would be oh, so relieved if we won because then he wouldn't have to plan the honeymoon!  See our story below and leave a comment.  Doesn't have to be long... just "Yay" or "So excited!"... you know, something along those lines.  If we win, I'll bring you all a piece of sand :)

Ditching The White Dress

While perusing CNN during my read-the-news break at work, I came across an interesting article that caught my attention.  Yes, I know what you're going to say.  Natalie, anything with the word "bride" or "wedding" always catches your attention.  I won't deny it but I do think this one is particularly interesting.

Brides buck tradition and ditch the white dress

The article doesn't give us (or those of us who regularly browse wedding sites) any new information but reiterated what we've been seeing lately: less brides are wearing white on their wedding day.  In my mind, white and ivory are in the same category but the article does make a distinction.  The dress I ordered, as well as what a lot of brides are gravitating towards these days (according to the article), is ivory.  Big deal.  However, the featured bride is wearing a blue/green dress...

I like traditions.  I think that there is something romantic and comforting about them - especially during big life-cycle events like weddings.  This doesn't mean that I like all traditions - and I'm sure that's what these out-of-the-box brides are thinking.  Personally, I would never consider not wearing a white/ivory dress on my wedding day but I'm fascinated by the women who do.  I wonder if they'll regret it later.  This, being their one opportunity to wear a WHITE gown, rather than one that can be worn to prom or the Oscars.

In my head, the ceremony and the reception offer two completely different vibes.  So when brides wear white to the ceremony and change for the reception, it shouldn't be that big of a deal.

But the actual ceremony... the uniting of two people... the "forever" promises... the mention of our ancestors making the same commitment... the seriousness of the whole thing... you're not wearing white?

Who am I to judge?  We're not even having a wedding cake.

Disclaimer: this post is not meant to offend anyone wearing a non-whiteish dress on their wedding day.  I am merely intrigued and curious as to your thoughts.  Please comment below!

Just Because

PS. We're getting our engagement photos taken on Sunday and I'm really excited.
