Rubies are Red, Emeralds are Green

Fresh on the heels of our white-or-not-white wedding dress discussion, let's talk about engagement rings for a second.  Jessica Simpson is once again in the news but the conversation is about her engagement ring (we'll save the 5-month courtship for a later topic).

It's a RUBY!!!

I love this article for giving kudos to her Fiance for going the unconventional route by choosing a ring that looks like one of the "Crown Jewels. "

But let's be honest... would you accept a gold, ruby and diamond ring?

It's not particularly my taste but is that because we're taught to expect a white diamond?  Diamond engagement rings didn't become common until the 1930s (thank you DeBeers) and before that, colored stones were the norm.

Do you think they'll make a comeback?
